Adventures in Micro Adventures
Adventure #1: Keep it Simple- Phall in Philly
What a whirlwind week. I started writing this post so many times, and kept getting sidetracked by life. It was a crazy week, terribly busy, and positively transitional.
Transition periods can be chaotic, overlapping the world between who you were and who you’re becoming. But there’s something rewarding hidden within the chaos- the realization that you’re actively creating your life rather than passively tolerating it. When you finally emerge on the other side, you realize that you can trust yourself in times of uncertainty, and that if you keep pushing through, something amazing is waiting.
More on those changes later, and back to the adventure at hand. Because of the chaos, I opted to start my year of micro adventures in my own backyard. I took a trip to the farmer’s market, and made it a point to take the long way home, and enjoy what remained of the fall beauty in Philadelphia.

I hit Head House Farmer’s Market this week. To be honest, it’s my favorite in Philly. Although it’s not for the faint of heart. The amount of vendors and peole shoved into the Head House shambles is way to many. Thankfully, dogs are no longer allowed, but be alert or you’ll be rammed by a double wide stroller. First world problems, for sure, but a warning, nonetheless.
Head House Farmer’s Market runs on Sundays from 10AM to 2PM, year round. Some of my favorite vendors include: Root Mass Farm for veggies, Three Springs Fruit Farm, and of course Primordia Mushroom Farm. You can also find other things at the market, such as kombucha, bread, coffee and pickles.
Following the marmaet, I took the long way home through Queen Village and Old City. I took in the last of the leaves on the trees, chuckled at the aging pumpkins left from Halloween, and reminded myself of what a beautiful city Philadelphia is. ALl in all, an excellent first micro adventure.
Stay tuned for this week’s adventure. It’s a good one. I promise it won’t take all week to write it up!
